| stevegray's Full Review: Royal Caribbean Majesty of the Seas |
This trip was my virgin voyage on a cruise, and I will definitely be doing it again. My Family (wife, two boys 11 and 9) and I went on a cruise June 4th - 8th of 2001. We departed from Miami and had stops in Nassau and Coco Cay, Bahamas and in Key West, Florida.
Upon first arriving aboard the ship, I was very impressed at the luxuriousness of the interior decorating. We had a room with four beds and a tiny window. I was initially shocked at how small the room, but learned later that the room was only used for showering and sleeping. We were so busy having fun that the size of the room turned out to be perfect.
This trip was to be the last time that I would spend with my family for a year (I am in the Army and have been assigned without them to Korea for 12 months), so I wanted it to be special. I also wanted to spend some time with my wife and not just doing kid stuff all day and night. Well, the Royal Carribean had a wonderful program for children of all ages. My boys were hesitant at first about joining this "club" (they thought that it would be too childish), but after the first night, they couldn't wait to go again.
The cruise line has activities scheduled all day and night. They had a casino, several night clubs, buffets, chorus style shows, comedy shows, competitions (belly flop, dancing, etc) and other events.
At every port, there were many different excursions that could be undertaken. However, most of these cost additional money. Some of it was quite expensive too. I went snorkeling with my sons on stingray island. This cost around $35 a person, but was well worth it. My wife had a lot of fun shopping at all of the ports.
Every time we returned from a port, we always went up to the pools and swam a little.
Holy cow....I almost forgot....THE FOOD. The food was excellent. The food onboard is included with the fare. You had a choice from a number of different restaurants on the ship. We always ate at the Windjammer Cafe for breakfast. This was a self-serve buffet on the top deck. For dinner we ate in the formal dining room. The food here was gourmet dining served my an excellent staff.
Alcoholic beverages and sodas cost extra money.
This cruise cost us about $600 a person. Not too bad for short notice booking. My two sons enjoyed the cruise more than a Disney World trip.
We were so happy with Royal Carribean, that we are planning another cruise for next year sometime.
I do not feel that we need a room with a window, the view was nice, but nothing compared with going up on the top deck. This will be one way to save a couple of hundred dollars on the next trip (more money for on-shore fun).
I fully recommend Royal Carribean's Majesty of the Seas.
