| sleonard's Full Review: Royal Caribbean Majesty of the Seas |
Royal Caribbean is my favorite cruise line. They have, by far, the happiest crew as well as the most diverse passengers. For me, this is what I seek: a fun (but not overly loud and obnoxious) trip with other happy people. I found this on the Majesty of the Seas.
Embarkation and Debarkation: This was soooo easy, easy, easy. Too easy. I kept thinking, "there has to me more than this?" I arrive at 12:15 pm at the pier via tourist van. I negotiated the price down from $75 to $50 for a ride to Miami from the Ft. Lauderdale Airport Hilton. I heeded the advice of seasoned travelers. Fly into FLL rather than MIA if possible. It was easy and I did save more than $150 (including the $50 ride to the pier). FYI, On the way back to the FLL airport, I purchased a RCCL transfer for $20.
Upon arrival at the pier, I upgraded to a Cat. D cabin for $150...no single supplement. Yes, it was just me traveling. In all, I paid less than $550 for a high level, ocean view cabin. Not a suite, but almost as good. Keep in mind I am traveling by myself and this should have cost much more. But, being the cost conscious traveler I am, I scoured the websites for the best deal and found it at Yahoo! Travel.
Upon embarkation, I began exploring the ship and stopped for a drink at the Anchor Bar. Expensive! But, met several passengers and the bartender who remembered my name for the remainder of the 4 night cruise. +++
The pool area was deserted, so I walked the ship and found the wine steward's table selling packages for wine with dinner. A FANTASTIC deal! Only $65 for 4 bottles (one for each night). Best of all, you can take it back to your cabin if you don't finish is without paying the $9 corking fee charged those who BYO wine.
I then hit the spa. I have a lot to say about the spa, as I spent more than $500 there this trip. It was nice, but needs improvement. The massages are good provided you do not get Otto, a young therapist who tends to party too much the night before and yawned 7 times during my massage. I could tell he was more tired than me! The facialists are FANTASTIC and I cannot recommend them highly enough. I had two, and could tell a difference afterward. Skip the cellulite reduction treatment. It is a joke, and they measure loosely before, tightly after to make it seem like you lost inches. The Spa manager is a doll and will go out of his way to make you feel welcomed and comfortable.
I had my hair highlighted at the salon and they did a FABULOUS job. Better than my stylist at home. And only $85 for long hair! I thought this was the best deal of the cruise.
I will skip the details about my dining experience and suffice it to say the food was very good. Eat in the dining room if you can...food is much better than Windjammer. Room Service is a joke. There are literally 9 selections available and none sound particularly appealing (tuna sandwich, chef salad, etc.)
The entertainment was very good. Crew members put on great, funny shows. The comic was actually funny. Bingo was entertaining, but not as good as on the Enchantment :)
The ports are fun, but I found the private island to actually smell bad...like sulfur when you're in the water. So, keep this in mind if you're going snorkeling. I don't know if this is volcanic or bacteria related.
If you're planning to scuba, get to the desk early. It books up fast. Have a great trip! This was a really fun ship.
