| summer2205's Full Review: Royal Caribbean Nordic Empress |
I cruised to Bermuda on the Royal Caribbean Nordic Empress a couple weeks ago and it was my second cruise. I went on the Royal Caribbean Rhapsody of the Seas in March which was a larger ship. My family was a large group and we stayed on the 4th deck and had windows in our rooms. Of course, first time cruisers are always surprised at the very small rooms but they were actually quite comfortable and we were only in there to sleep at nights because there was so much to do on the boat and in Bermuda.
Royal Caribbean cruise ships always have the best and friendliest service and we became fast friends with our stateroom attendent and waiter. We had the first dinner seating at 6:00 and next time I would rather have the second seating at 8:00 because it seemed like we always had to rush back to the boat so early. The food was great and the menu included many choices to accomodate all passengers. There was also another place, the "windjammer" that offered a buffet service during breakfast, lunch, and dinner for those who didn't want to attend the formal sit down dinners. You will never be hungry on this ship and it is said that cruisers gain atleast 2 pounds a day!
The boat was smaller than the other cruise ship I had been on and it had one small pool and didn't have a full top deck for a jogging track or more chairs. I belive the boat had around 2,000 passengers. There are several bars and a casino as well as the "strike up the band lounge" where the main performances are. I was so impressed by the nightly shows by the ship's dancers or comedians and I always looked forward to going there after dinner. If you go on a cruise don't miss out on this! There is also the "high society lounge" where karoake and some dancing takes place. However, my favorite place on the boat was the disco club or "Viking Crown Lounge". It's open from 11-3 am every night and they play great music and also have single get togethers.
Most of the people on this boat were middle aged couples although there also a lot of families with small children and a few teenagers. Every night you receive a "compass" in your cabin that lists all the activities that will be offered the next day on the ship. A highlight of the trip for me was the nightly themes such as the "ladies and 80's" night, "50's and 60's sock hop", "country western", and "disco fever". After dinner there would be dancing, games, and shows by the staff to go along with the theme for the night. There were always poolside activities for a play gym for the kids. A highlight for others although I only participated once, was the Bingo games that were held atleast twice a day and offered jackpots of up to $1,000 and free cruise trips. The gift shop and art auctions were also frequented by many cruisers.
We left out of New York and were docked in the Shipyards of Bermuda after a day and a half. We spent two nights at the Shipyards and then another two in the Hamilton dock on the other side of the island. The trip was a week long. We had a lot of fun in Bermuda and the cruise ship shows videos and offers shopping guides and tips on where to go.
We had an amazing time and it's impossible to be bored on this ship and the warmth of everyone else on board really adds to the experience. I definitely recommend going on a Royal Caribbean cruise, especially on the Nordic Empress. If you prefer a larger ship check out some of their other trips.
