| jonahsharkey's Full Review: Royal Olympic Stella Solaris |
Still jetlagged from the 20 hour flight back to the states I thought I'd drop a note to sing the praises of the Stella Solaris. We just took the Golden Fleece cruise and it was wonderful. I would recommend this trip for anyone with an interest in ancient history, or shopping! ;*)
My fiance and I had a wonderful time, though we found ourselves to be one of the youngest couples there (29 and 27). If you are travelling as a couple please be aware that the beds in all rooms except for the suites are singles, and really only one of them (the couch converted one) is comfortable.
The shore excursions are wonderful, though I would choose carefully. They do a nice discount if you sign up for 6 or more, and I would say that if you were going to do that to sign up for Kusadasi(Ephessos), Nights of Istanbul, Istanbul day trip(though we broke off early to explore Istanbul on our own and spend more than an hour at the covered bazzar), Santorini - Oia town, Knossos, and Patmos. I would strongly suggest that you do not sign up for the Rhodes/Lindos tour. Rhodes has sadly been converted from a historical site to a tourist trap, and Lindos is hardly worth the more than an hour drive to get there. The boat docks within walking distance of Rhodes if you'd like to see it.
Lastly, be sure to stay a night extra in Athens. It makes your travel arrangements so much easier with the transfers that Royal Olympic plans for you for transportation to and from the Airport and Hotel.
