| dgk_kos's Full Review: Royal Olympic World Renaissance |
This is our fourth cruise onboard a ROYAL OLYMPIC CRUISES ship and for sure is not going to be the last.
This time we were on board the MTS WORLD RENAISSANCE, a classic ship (12000 gt, 150*21 m) built by Chantiers de l'atlantique in France at 1966.
The ship has a very elegant shape and very big open deck space, with 2 swimming pools, according to its size.
The interior is very nice also but there is a problem in the main dining room at Dionysos deck. This room has only portholes instead of windows so it is very difficult to have a view of the sea when you are sitting at the table.
In the other way the food and the desserts and especially the behavior of the greek stewards makes you forget about this thing.
There is also a theatre with 110 seats, playing some interesting movies but with strange combinations of language and subtitles (e.g. american film in spanish language with dutch subtitles).
For me the best place of the ship is the bar at main lounge at Apollon deck. This offers great view to the sea and also the company of mr Yiannis the bartender who always has a story to tell you about the golden age of cruising.
This time we had an A category (outside with porthole) cabin, located at Venus deck, wich was big enough and kept always clean and tidy by the cabin stewards.
As i mentioned before, this time we had our two children with us, and it was very difficult for us to keep them busy without disturbing the other passengers. This happened because of the complete absence for a place just for kids.
DAY ONE
RHODOS ISLAND GREECE
Rhodos is famous for the medieval city and also for Lindos village with the ancient "Acropolis" and the donkey rides.
For sure there are plenty of things to see at such an island.
DAY TWO
IRAKLION CRETE AND SANTORINI
The ship arrives early in the morning at port of Iraklion and it stays there for 4 hours, time wich is enough for someone to follow the very well organized tours of the ship and makes a visit to the nearby ancient city of Knossos.
By 16:00 at afternoon the ship arrives at Santorini and there you can see one of the best sunsets at Oia village.
DAY THREE
PIREUS ATHENS
This the normal port of embarkation for all the other passengers and i can say that the procedures of disembarkation and embarkation were easy without any waste of time.
DAY FOUR AND FIVE
INSTABUL TURKEY
A very interesting and unique city were you can see some real wonders of humanity from all the periods of the history. Because the ship spents the night there you can have a taste of the night life (oriental dancers etc ).
DAY SIX
KUSADASI TURKEY
The Greek ancient and very well preserved city of Ephessus is something that everyone has to see.
DAY SEVEN
PATMOS AND MYKONOS ISLANDS
Patmos is known for the cave inside wich John the pupil of Jesus wrote the Apocalypse and a 1000 year old monastery.
Mykonos is a typical Greek island with nice beaches for swimming and a famous night life.
At this point i have to mentioned that the biggest advantage of all the four ROYAL OLYMPIC CRUISES ships that i have sailed is the nice atmosphere because of the behavior and the sailing traditions of the Greek crew.
Many thanks to captain mr STATHIS ROMEOS and all of the crew of MTS WORLD RENAISSANCE for their hospitality.
