| gimme_mo's Full Review: Windjammer Mandalay |
If you like laid back vacations with small groups and no formalities, this is the cruise for you. I went with my husband in April 2005. We visited Tortola, and small islands in the area. The Mandalay is a magnificient vessel. It has beautiful woodwork. The Decks are clean. The crew is great and friendly. It's like cruising with friends and family. Mandalay is fitted to accommodate 72 passengers and a crew of 28.
Everyday we had these lovely animals made out of our towels in our neatly cleaned room. After breakfast we have our first Story Time, a daily on-deck forum for the Captain to tell a few jokes and tell us about the days schedule. He lets us know that the only predictable thing is unpredictability
none of the itinerary is etched in stone, but will be determined 24 hours at a time.
It is something special to see the massive sheets of canvas unfurled and hoisted up the masts. All the passengers join in the hoisting job as if in a tug-of-war. The song Amazing Grace set to bagpipes is played over the loudspeakers as each sail goes up. There are nine massive sails. This ritual is followed on all the Windjammer ships I am told. Big tear jerker. Wash t down with unlimited rum sizzles.
Miss it, wanna go back. Too bad they are currently not sailing the fleet.
