Why look for the paradise when it's here? Well, may be a bit far from home but well worth the long flight. Eden is the nickname they give the Seychelles, if you happen to be flying there by the Air Seychelles (altough I myself prefer Air France that operates regular flights there)... as they play you promotional videos showing shoals of great fish you can fish, and pictures such as the one that is featured on the covers of all the travel magazines. Idealism? Selectivity? Hardly. It is all like this.
The whole island is pleasant, and although it has it's downtrodden areas, they are not as bad as the English equivalent, and for a developing country, that is pretty good. OK, the Seychelles' main and most fruitful industry is no longer fishing, but tourism... so everything is done to ensure that you see all the right things, and are treated well. Sometimes this bored me because I wanted to see the real country. All the hotels are of an equal standard and each has air conditioning, en suite, minbar, and balcony as standard. In such a climate, this is somthing to be thankful for. I couldn't possibly tell you about everything the Island(s) have to offer in a short article, but it is definitely worth a visit. Everything is cheap, and at each restraunt, you can have as much of which ever food you like, all inclusive. Same with the beer, you can drink as much as you want for a set evening bar fee, something along the lines of seven dollars per night. Quite a good deal!
The best part however, is the scuba diving over the coral reefs that surround the Islands. In the seychelles, the coral is an area of world biological importance, so measures are taken to ensure it is conserved. The diving schools are good and they will look after you well (I returned home safely). If you are thinking twice... don't! Just visit it. It's paradise.
