Pros: Good tour, not rushed, tasty food. Great guide and Grace was very professional.
Cons: Really need at least three days. There was so much to see.
The Bottom Line: Lot's to see, clean, safe and economical. The tour service, Chinabluefish, is professional and pampered us without being intrusive. Food and lodging were fine. Anyone would like it.

Traveled to Xian in February 2008 arriving just as the snow was gone and the temperatures were rising. Instead of booking the tour through the hotel I booked through www.chinabluefish.com and saved about 20% plus got a private car, driver and fluent knowledgeable guide. The warriors are awesome and we were able to take our time and see it all. From the parking lot to the entrance takes about ten minutes winding along garden pathways. It was still winter so the garden atmosphere hadn't returned yet. It's hard to imagine the labor that went into creating the warriors and the labor it took to excavate them thousands of years later. There is a movie that follows the tour explaining more and Grace was patient and happy to fill in all the details. Later we went back to the city, rested and ate some dumplings. That afternoon we rented some bikes and toured the city wall. A bit chilly but not bad at all. In the early evening we explored the Muslim district stopping and snacking everywhere. Actually the food was tasty and clean. No problems at all drifting along with the crowd. The next day we were promptly picked up and visited the museums. Grace, our guide, is an encyclopedia of information and totally fluent. We decided to make some changes after the museum and enjoyed a great foot massage. The guide knows all the best places and following that (I fell asleep) we ate some spicy local flavors. The evening was topped off with a visit to the opera. In the morning we were picked up and whisked to the airport. Grace accompanied us and when the airline questioned something about the tickets she took care of it and got us on board without a hassle. Quite a pleasant surprise. It was too short. Xian and the surrounding area is filled with tempting sights. We wanted to visit the wildlife reserve and see the pandas but there simply wasn't enough time. We will be back.
