Jurong has a curious combination of tourist attractions, despite its industrialized nature. These include:
Haw Par Villa: This park is like a low budget Chinese Disneyland, including rides through scenes depicting various stories from Chinese mythology, and people acting out plays in ancient Chinese costumes. These include scenes that show the various gruesome tortures that people go through when they go to hell. You will either be amused at the supreme tackiness of the place, angered that you actually paid money to see it, or glad that you brought the kids so you can show them what happens if they don't behave!
Jurong Bird Park: This park has a large selection of beautiful and exotic birds from many areas of the world, though of course the Asian birds are the best represented. This includes a great selection of hornbills. There are many walk-in aviaries. It gets really hot there so best to go in the early morning, especially since the birds are more active. I would recommend seeing the park if you're spending four to five days in Singapore and are a nature lover. However, if you plan to visit the Singapore Zoo, be sure and see the Jurong Bird Park first, otherwise you'll be disappointed since it's less impressive than the zoo.
Chinese and Japanese Gardens: Singapore is such a concrete jungle that it's nice to have parks like these that show typical Asian gardens. However, there's nothing really unusual here that you wouldn't see elsewhere in Asia. It's more for the locals.
Overall, there are other more interesting sights in Singapore, so other than the Bird Park, Jurong is not recommended unless you're in Singapore for a long time and want to see all that's there.
