Review Topic: Overview
A group of friends and I travelled to Antigua for Spring Break this past March. We were college students, but wanted a relaxing vacation away from the normal college hangouts. We definitely chose the right place.
We stayed at the Royal Antiguan Resort and Casino, which is situated on a beautiful, secluded beach, and surrounded by crystal blue water. The resort was perfect for us--it fit into our budget and provided an all-inclusive option that I thoroughly recommend. This hotel was definitely suited for those with a moderate budget. The rooms were clean, but needed updating. The food was quite good, but definitely not for the gourmet. There were several restaurants to choose from for lunch and dinner, and a buffet for breakfast. For those with the all-inclusive option, all drinks and meals are included, as well as entertainment.
The only drawback was the constant presence of the Antiguans that attempted to sell the tourists everything from Aloe to jewelery. The people were, however, extremely friendly and caring. My suggestion is to buy something from them early on, and keep it in plain sight. They leave you alone after that. Another caution is the water sports. My friends and I took a Banana Boat ride that left one girl with a black eye, and another with a panic attack. The people running the amusements didn't seem to be very qualified.
The resort catered to all kinds of traveling groups--families, couples (there were several marraiges in the week we were there), and groups, such as my friends and I.
There is a fair amount of shopping in the town of St. John, which is a short taxi or bus ride from anywhere, and I recommend taking one of the many snorkeling trips offered through the resorts.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this vacation to anyone with a moderate budget, with or without children.
