Aruba was definitely a place you can relax at. It has near perfect weather! I was there for 8 days and 7 nights and it rained twice the whole time and it was only a little drizzle that lasted a half hour- we didn't even leave the beach! Which by the way was absolutely gorgeous! Coming from New York where the waters are grey and murky, seeing bright blue green waters was breath-taking.
I stayed at the Allegro Resort which is a 3-4 star hotel. It wasn't shabby but very nice and economical (I don't make that much). It is a high rise hotel on palm beach, which is said to be one of the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world (cited from a travel guide I picked up at Hagstroms) and is located next to the Hyatt and Radisson resorts. Those are by the way your uppercrust hotels. (My friend and I actually got caught swimming in the Hyatt pool which was nicer than ours but I wouldnt suggest that!) You can get an all inclusive deal at Allegro which I STRONGLY suggest. This includes all meals, non motorized sports and best of all UNLIMITED ALCOHOLIC DRINKS!!! There is a bar in the hotel in their disco (which was actually kinda lame), on the beach and best of all in the pool! You can swim up the bar, get a drink and don't even have to leave the pool!
The only downside to Aruba is that there isn't much of a singles scene. I had gone with a friend and the prospects were limited to the locals. I don't know who annoyed me more- the honeymooners or the kids!
But we did a lot of activities such as a sunset sailing cruise, snorkeling and best of all a jeep adventure tour! (look for De Palm Tours Packages at your front desk at your hotel) With the jeep tour, you get to ride a jeep along with a bunch of others through the country of Aruba! It was very exciting!
But if you're looking for a place to chill and relax and not looking to get involved with anyone, then Aruba is your place! And best of all since I could only take vacation time in August and I really wanted to go to the Caribbean and I didnt want to get stuck in a hurricane. Aruba has absolutely NO THREAT of tropical storms. It advertises its near perfect weather which I can attest to! Have fun!
