I am 19 years old so my review is geared toward the younger crowd that would go to the Bahamas. I went to the Bahamas over a year ago. I went for my senior week after I graduated high school.
We went for 9 days in the middle of June. We stayed in Cable Beach. I started enjoying my stay as soon as we landed in the airport. I will admit it is not the most luxurious aiprort but what do you expect for an island. As soon as we got off the plane we were greeted by a Bahamian band playing music. While waiting for our luggage we were enjoying drinks from the bar.
I will admit that driving from the airport to our hotel was not the most impressive scenery. I guess we were going through the poorer parts of town. But my attitude soon changed when we got to our hotel. I guess I was not expecting to stay in a place so nice. I would not want a bunch of kids just out of high school running around my hotel. We stayed at the Crystal Palace Hotel and Casino. I was very pleased with the hotel. Everything was very neat and clean and the staff was very polite. They always were there if we needed something.
The hotel had a large pool and it was right on the beach. Also there were many shops in the hotel. There was everything from a little girt shop to a liquor store. And of course there was the casino, which was very big.
During the day there are many thing to do in the Bahamas. You could go in to town where there are an ample amount of different kinds of shops to go to. You could also just lay around on the beach and work on your tan, which we did a lot. On day we also rented jetskies and went para-sailing.
One day we took a boat ride to this island where you could swim with dolphins and sting rays. I swam with the dolphins but stayed away from the sting rays.
There are many clubs in the area for young people to go to. We went to one everynight we were there. One was a block away from our hotel so we could walk to it. The others we just took a taxi. For the most part the clubs were nice. There were one or two that were not that elegant. My favorite was the one called the Zoo. This club was very nice and there was a lot of room to move around. The only drawback of the club scene for me was the heat. It was hot outside so you could imagine how hot it was in there.
The only drawback of the Bahamas for me was the prices. Everything was so expensive. I could even believe how much the food cost. Almost every night we were there we ended up eating a Sbarro because it was a block away from the hotel. The cost of alcohol was quite high. One beer cost four dollars and fifty cents. All the beer was the same price, you paid the same for a corona as you did for a bud. I enjoyed the mixed drinks but they a dug a hole in my pocket. The prices were expensive but I expected it. I was on vacation and it did not bother me to splurge a little.
All in all I thought the Bahamas was a great place for a vacation. I can not wait to go back there. I am saving my money in hopes of going sometime next year.
