| adamadi's Full Review: Barbados |
Barbados is a tiny island in the Caribbean. It is the most easterly of Caribbean islands. The main language spoken is English.
I visited Barbados twice, both during the August period. Actually, I have always ended up going there a week after their cropover festival, which I heard is pretty good. I stayed in a hotel at Divi Southwinds in St. Lawrence, I'll leave my comments about that hotel for its review.
Barbados is a beautiful island. There are a few stunning blue water beaches. Accra beach is rather nice, though not as good as it looked in a postcard but thats typical. At most beaches, there are a variety of activities available, jet ski's, water-ski, banana and multiple boat rides.
Barbados also has some great restaurants. If you ever visit Barbados, you must visit Cafe Sol in the St. Lawrence gap, its one amazing mexican restaurant. Barbados also has the typical fast foods, so if you need a quick bite, it shouldn't be a problem. There is a local fast food chain, Cheffette, which is pretty decent, serving the regular chicken & chips, but also roti, pizza and salads.
But I should say you must look at prices. Barbados prices are very high. Barbados has its own currency, its rates it about .50 to 1 USD. Let me show you a price example. A small KFC chicken and chips box is about $20 Barbados dollars. In the instance, the price is about 5 times typical prices, but in most cases its about 3 or 4 times our prices.
Another problem with Barbados is that it lacks good nightlife. Yes, there are a few pool bars around, but there are only 2 nightclubs in the Island. And the clubs are not really indoors. During the cropover season, I heard there are numerous parties around, but when I went, it was pretty much dead.
I did not venture much to some of the other things on the island. I went through the capital city, Bridgetown, which is a good place to pick up Souvenirs. I would recommend you visit Barbados, but note well, do not go to Divi Southwinds resort, its an awful hotel.
