I have sailed around all of the BVI islands, and I would have to say that the fat virgin "Virgin Gorda" is the best of all of the British Virgins. We stayed at the Bitter End resort which is a tropical paradise. There are pools, flowers, boardwalks, and even a little pool with sharks. Be sure to have a painkiller with the famous Pussers Rum.
On the other end of the island are "The Baths". This is one of the most photographed beaches in the BVI. We were sailing, so we anchored and dingied in, yet you can take a taxi there. This beach is very popular and usually rather crowded. This is because the sands are fine and white... and there are massive boulders piled onto on another forming cave-like passages. You can walk through these in one foot of water on fine sand with sun beams streaming down from above. There are ropes set up for some of the more challenging passage ways.
The snorkeling is amazing and if you rock climb, bring your bouldering shoes. If you have children, I would advise keeping a close eye on them. It is easy for the little ones to get lost in the passage ways, or try climbing to the top of the boulders (which is fun) yet could also be very dangerous.
