As cruise passengers, my husband and I like to take excursions that interest us and also allow us to get away from the “herd.” During a sailing on Carnival’s Paradise last May, we went on an excursion to The Bath’s at Virgin Gorda. Without a doubt, it was one of our most favorite tours to date.
We tendered from the ship to Virgin Gorda and were put into the open-air tour buses for our trip to The Baths. We found the landscape to be interesting since one side of the road was lush and the other side arid with cacti.
Upon our arrival, we received a short lecture about the area and also how to go down the path. We started down the steep hill with little trouble, except when someone was coming up. You stand to the side and wait until they pass and then you continue down. A beautiful beach welcomes you after the 10-minute walk (depending on who is in front of you.) There is a swimming area to the right and there is a path through the boulders to the left. If you go on the path, be prepared to get wet and to do some climbing. The beach at the end isn’t too crowded and the experience of going through the enormous boulders is great I am told.
My husband and I were more interested in snorkeling, so we headed out to the water side of the boulders. There were some decent coral formations growing on the steep walls created by the huge rocks. We saw quite a few fish in that area as well. It was interesting that we were in the water for at least an hour and no one came close to our location. We spent most of our time in this part of the Baths, since it also gave us a great view of all the sailboats in the area.
We quickly dried off and started the hike back up the path. It’s a relatively easy climb, since there are pseduo steps carved into the hillside. We then were transported back to the ship the same way we arrived.
I would recommend this area to anyone taking a cruise excursion. We enjoyed it so much we plan to vacation in this area sometime in the near future.
