Cons: Mushrooms and mushroom tea are fake, expensive, commercialized
The Bottom Line: Go for the party and a few drinks but don't expect anything from the mushrooms. If you do that you may end up enjoying yourself.

Our anticipation of the Bomba shack full moon party was that you could drink free psychodelic mushroom tea (which is legal to consume in the BVI), and trip through the night. What we found was quite different, I will detail our visit.
It started by taking a five dollar a person taxi from Cane Garden Bay. Upon arriving we are notified that the mushroom tea is only available from 9-9:30pm and then after midnight. Since we were unaware of this we were fortunate enought,or so we thought, to arrive just in time for one glass. We were instructed to purchase our tea cup from a booth that charged ten dollars per cup, so we bought them and went back to the tea stand. The local behind the bar instructed us that he "worked for tips and not tits" and refused to fill our glass without first tipping five dollars. After tipping we finally were able to get a full glass and proceeded to drink the whole cup. Several hours went by with absolutely no effect whatsoever. After realizing the tea was fake we proceeded to purchase mushrooms to eat. This also resulted in no sensation. The famed rum punch tasted absolutely horrible but was rumored to have been soaked in mushrooms. It was high in alcohol but still no effect. To purchase a drink you must buy tickets from a concession stand and then redeem those coupons for drinks. Be careful how many you buy, we woke up the next morning with a pocket full of unused ones.
It seems it is more of a tourist trap setup to take advantage of unsuspecting tourists. There are stands setup all down the street with people selling trinkets, ect. This event is ok if you have no previous expectations and no plans to drink the tea anyway, otherwise don't get your hopes up.
Also, the majority of the people there were white tourists of all ages. It was not intimidating and we did not feel intimidated by the locals. We were surprised that no one we asked was ever willing to tell us the true nature of this party but I guess It's just too big of a money maker to ruin.
