Pros: Great resorts, terrific restaurants, wonderful locals, the best beach in the world.
Cons: Service can be very slow - "Grenada Time". Vacations are always too short.
The Bottom Line: A wonderful escape in the dreary winter months. Not many tourists means you have all of the luxury to yourself and your closest friends!

Grenada has faced difficult times in its history: battled over between Britain and France in its founding days, and most recently surviving hurricanes Ivan and Emily. The latter left the island devastated, demolishing the majority of homes, taking away 90% of the island agriculture (its # 1 source of income), leading to looting and very slow rebuilding. Forward a few years post-hurricanes and what you have are beautiful, gracious people; terrific, classy resorts; and restaurants the likes of which one can NOT see unless present.
The Grenadian by Rex Resort and Grenada Grand Beach Resort are the places to stay on the island. The Rex is a sprawling hotel, laid out like a mansion with steps and restaurants, a pool house, and beautiful gardens. It is very elite looking and feels a bit stuffy compared the the Grand Beach Resort. My personal favorite, the Grand Beach has several pools, lots of outdoor dining and bar areas, quite good buffets morning, noon, and night, for those who choose to remain on resort property at all times. I suggest requesting room 808! Brilliant view of the beach with a great balcony. The Grand Beach happens to be on the nicest beach on the island with the finest sand and the clearest waters. Having travelled the island quite thoroughly, I can attest to the beach quality. The best I've ever been on.
The there are the island restaurants. I was amazed by the quality and architectural brilliance of the restaurants on the island. The best: LaLuna, with a thatched roof, no windows, charming staff, and a terrific Italian menu. I believe it was voted one of the Top 100 restaurants in the world by Conde Nast. Aquarium, with a dining room built into the side of a cliff/waterfall. The menu here was the simplest of the places I have visited most frequently, but the service was very good and although the fare was not elite by any means, the sweet potato-ginger soup was spectacular. My very favorite restaurant: The Beach House. Again, very open space, with an amazing menu! The crab cakes were so great and the desserts here draw the crowds. The manager was the nicest gentleman I've met on the island, giving us great seats on the busiest of nights - even remembering our names when we came back several nights later. On the casual, but solid side: The Red Crab. This restaurant has been around for years and years and everyone recommends it. The food is very good, very fresh, local ingredients. The staff is very good at what they do and the mood and ambiance of the restaurant is very casual. A great place to be with a group of friends without needing to dress up. Have the Lambi appetizer - it's amazing.
Then there's the spice market. Can't wait to go back next year!
