Pros: Wonderful tropical sights, ocean, and sandy beaches; Club Med food was fabulous
Cons: Hot and humid; no cash machine nor working Internet access at Club Med; sun screen!
The Bottom Line: A nice tropical getaway (maybe even introduction to French), Guadeloupe Club Med is a good choice for its steady climate, people, and water

My wife and I and our 12-year-old daughter visited for about 9 days in June, 2005.
The weather was 80s and 90s (degrees F) and usually humid. The island is beautiful; very much tropical. The economy outside of tourism is largely agriculture with sugar cane, bananas, and pineapples as major products. The ocean was pristine and beaches, wonderful sand.
Guadeloupe is a part of France and most of its tourists are French. The roads, signs, franchises, and cars are all as found in Paris. Guadeloupe is to France what Hawaii is to the U.S.: a tropical island to the west.
This Club Med was our first vacation of this type so I can make no relative comparisons, to other Club Meds nor to other resorts such as Sandals. The accommodations were small and modest but clean. We weren't bothered by it; the point was to be outside, after all.
The Club offered a good variety of extra-cost excursions. All that we took were well done: horseback riding, a day trip around the island, a sailing day trip to the Iles des les Saintes (islands of the saints) off the coast. Windsurfing lessons were free; a trial of scuba gear in their pool was free; jet skis were extra but wonderful fun.
The food was FABULOUS. Open seating. Extraordinary diversity with every meal. Friendly staff. Seafood, landlubber fare, kid stuff, salads of every kind, breads, cheeses, pastries, pasta, wine, tap beer, wonderful fruit, simply no place to go to control your shape.
The Club public spaces were completely open-air. The lobby, bar, and restaurant offered a roof against the rain but the only windows were to be found in our rooms. Tropical.
It was a wonderful introduction to Club Med and to Guadeloupe.
