Just so you know (Reply to this comment)

Paying a guide is not necessary if you don't mind braving the falls yourself.None of the locals pay to climb...it's not difficult and then you can go at your own pace. Just let your bus know you will be climbing alone so they don't leave you.

Thanks very much for providing the flip side to the Dunns River Falls argument.
My family and I are going to be Jamaica in January as part of a cruise and I've been debating whether the trip to the falls was worth the effort from Montego Bay.
Your review was very persuasive. Thanks

Ocho Rios - Dunns River Falls (Reply to this comment)

Thanks for a great, informative review. I am leaving Saturday for an 8-day trip to Ocho Rios, Renaissance Jamaica Grand. I am going with family, including a niece 15yrs, and nephew 17yrs. I will be posting a full, detailed review upon my return.
Keep up the great informative writing...

My wife and I visited the falls on our visit to Ocho Rios - and it was just as you described. For anyone even remotely self-propelled and adventurous, this site is a disappointing tourist trap. The rest of Ocho Rios proper isn't as bad as the falls, however.
