I took my fiancee on a surprise trip to Puerto Rico in May '00 as a gift for his college graduation. I have to admit, I was a bit concerned about going. I had heard about crime and volatility, but the bad reviews were outnumbered by the spectacular ones.
So we went. And you can be certain we will go again, and again... You get the idea!
From the moment you enter the resort grounds, you feel like you have just stepped into a tropical fantasy. This resort is everything a vacation should be, and it is not an accident. The grounds are elegant and beautiful, but natural. Not gaudy or man-made.
The people at the resort bend over backwards to ensure that you are catered to in every way. The rooms were appropriately appointed and very comfortable. I should mention that most people staying at the resort were middle-aged and well off. Don't let that dissuade you in any way! 99% of the time you do your own thing and don't see anyone, unless you want to.
Plus, you have free transport all day to the Cerromar with the river pool (bar right in the middle!!!!) and casino. Much more lively if that is your style. I wanted tropical relaxation, and that is what I got.
The beach at Dorado is stunning, the water clear. Restaraunts are fantastic...

I could go on forever. To wrap up, we 24 year- olds don't make enough to go every day, it is expensive. But if you are going to splurge, this is a very worthwhile way to do it. I'm going again this April, hope to see you there!
