I would recommend this trip to anyone, especially those mature couples that like to see unspoiled islands.

We found many people on the French side of the island, on the beach, to be very interesting, very friendly, and as a result, we are definitely going to book another vacation there same time of the year.

We picked February because of the low rainfall, and we did not regret it. There were many places to play volleyball on Orient beach, to go out for dinner, and on the far side of this beach there is even the clothing-optional section(French customs aside, this was a secluded area, anyone welcome to visit, but no cameras). Our hotel was very basic, large room, medium shower, no kitchenette, but pleasant decor (St. Tropez) and for under $200 per night the two of us enjoyed a small pool and a bar right on the beach.

There were many water sports available, and cheaper than on Martha's Vineyard, I must add. The food was priced reasonably, and so we didn't loose an arm and a leg on the trip. Locals were extremely helpful. Unfortunately, there aren't too many ATM's but luckily we found many places accepted credit cards. Taxi service from Dutch to French side is about 20 dollars, and well worth it, if you don't care to rent a car for several days. We spent a day in the capital, Marigot, and loved every minute of it.
