| op1500's Full Review: St. Martin Island |
If it is South of Key West (southeast of disorder), I've seen it and St Martin/Marteen is one of the few I would go back to. Like most of the Greater/Lesser Antilles it is absolutely beautiful. Weather you spend more time in the water than on land (or vicea Versa) you will find everything you could want on one island. I think having the 2 separate cultures settled there lends quite a bit to what separates St. Martin from St. Everywhere else. I found the people from both sides of the island to be very friendly and forth coming.
Now in my travels I do not stay on the tourist route, I get out and explore. Other (more Northern) islands have found me in situations that I should have avoided in the first place, not on St. Martin. I know every place on earth has the good bright shiny side and the dark bad smelly side (lord knows I came to in enough of them), it is just that the darker side of this island seemed less dark and smaller than most. Walking through streets alone I never once felt uncomfortable or out of place.
Diving, sunning or just shopping if your going South for any reason you need to check this place out.
