Denmark is one of the smallest countries in Europe but that does not mean there is little to offer. I have been to Denmark twice in my life, covering a period of almost five months and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I spent most of my time up in the northern part of the country known as NORDJYLLAND or North Jutland and it is basically countryside with lots of small towns and a few larger ones. Some of the big ones to visit are Aalborg, Frederikshavn and Skagen. Most of the small towns are very small and can be driven through in a matter of one minute or less. But make it a point to visit the three larger towns I mentioned.
If you are going to be traveling to Norway or Sweden via ferry, you'll probably have to go through Frederikshavn, in the past known as the busiest ferry location in the world according to Guiness.
Denmark is well known for its pastries (the best in the world and nothing like the American "Danishes", its good soccer team and other championship sport teams, beer (they have some of the oldest breweries in the world), excellent beaches and of course its butter cookies which are eaten more by Americans than they are by Danes.
Denmark has an excellent transportation system with its railways, ferries, freeways, buses and taxis. You can get anywhere you want to in Denmark.
Copenhagen is known as the jewel of Denmark because it is the biggest city, has a lot of history behind it and tourists flock to it from all over the world, especially to see the Little Mermaid statue in the harbor. However, if you really want to experience Denmark, rent a car and start driving because you will see a beautiful green country that gets lots of rain and has lots of sunshine in the summer, almost 22 hours at the summer solstice.
Once again, if you are going to Europe and you really want to see something beautiful, go to Denmark.
