Since taking a survey course in Renaissance art, my dream has been to visit the Musee du Louvre and absorb all the beauty that hangs on its walls.
My opportunity to experience the Louvre came in June of '97. I was visiting my then boyfriend in England. His best friend had won tickets to ride the Eurostar into Paris, but unfortunately was unable to go. Knowing that it was my first time in Europe and that I was an art lover, he was extremely generous and gave my boyfriend and I the tickets. Nothing on this earth could have stopped me from getting on that train!
We were only in Paris for an overnight stay, so I demanded that we visit the Musee du Louvre first.
From the moment you enter the grounds, you are mesmerized by the beauty of the architecture. I not so much as walked through, but rather floated through the entrance.
Upon entering the museum, I was dumbfounded as to what to view first. I knew that the defining moment for me would be to see the Mona Lisa, so we made our way into the Renaissance section. I could not believe all the beauty I saw, the textures of the paintings, the blues, the golds, the brush strokes.. it was too much for me to bare! I walked through the entire museum with my mouth open. I could hear the snickers of the passers by, but I didn't care. If I died in that museum, I would have passed on with no regrets or sorrows. It truly was a dream come true for me!
I was also impressed with the staff as they were uncommonly polite, friendly and hospitable. Also, the dining facilities were comfortable, clean and served very good food!
The only "downside" to the trip is that it was rather costly. If you are visiting Paris anytime soon, be prepared to spend outrageous amounts of money. However, no amount of money can buy a memory - so if you are a true art lover, please do not deny yourself this experience!
