A few weeks ago, I was able to spend two hours in the Louvre. Two hours isn't even enough time for one room let alone the rest of the hundreds of rooms!
Even with the little time we had in the museum, we saw so many interesting and intricate pieces! I was a little upset because some of the people that were on the trip had no respect for such art. Why would you go on such a trip if you don't appreciate such things?
When we got into the Louvre, we made a bee-line to the Mona Lisa. We're teenagers, we had to see the most famous one first. In the room with the Mona Lisa, were a few other beautiful pieces. Since I'm not French, I can't pronounce or spell the names, but two that stuck out in my mind were the table setting and the portrait of Heaven.
There was so much detail in them; the table setting took up the whole wall and looked like it was based off the Last Supper, but without the religious content. There was a man that was clearly the center of attention, and all the people around the table.
There were many religious pieces including birth, life, crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Some were a little extravagant, some were graphic, all were exquisite.
The Winged Victory and Venus de Milo were a couple of the more famous statues we viewed before departing this museum. It was interesting seeing the style of art and architecture of previous generations and centuries.
Even the ceilings were eye-catching. There were mosaics, paintings, and carvings. The gold accentuated the dulled colors from years of aging and photography. There were angels, designs and beautiful decorum.
It has been said that one could spend months, even a full year, in the Louvre and not see everything. I hope to return in a few years and see a little more of this awe-inspiring museum.
