Kreutzberg is my favorite part of Berlin! If you like to have a party 24h a day it is the right place for you!
I lived in Kreutzberg for 2 weeks some years ago and enjoyed every single minute there, it is the place when you can drink wine or beer with strangers on the streets, smoke ganja if you want to and to look like just as strange as you want to. Well, the crime rate is of course pretty high but I think it is even more dangerous in NY, Chicago and Washington DC.
Kreutzberg is a part od Berlin when you can still see the traces of WWII, some houses have holes from the exploded shells and bullets fired there in 1945. The inhabitans of Kreutzberg are mostly friendly and eagerly agree to have a beer with you, it is also no wonder when you are asked for the small secret underground party where you can listen the weirdest music you have ever heard.
Anyway, I do not want to say that Kreutzberg is a place everyone has to go, when you are afraid of dealers, hookers, crazy parties and stuff like that, please avoid that place, there is nothing for you there! But when you wanna see some alternative way of life Kreutzberg is a must to visit area in Berlin!
