Ok not exactly, but i live 5-10km from it in a city called "Bad Homburg", in the subvillage "Ober Eschbach", next to Ober Eschbach is the village "Nieder Eschbach", it already belongs to frankfurt!
So you can imagine that i visit Frankfurt very often, for example for shopping.
HISTORY:
The name "Frankfurt" is because about 1000 years ago the "Franken" lived in this area of Germany, and because of the river "Main" they made a "furt", its a way trough the water, a bridge, made of stones or other stuff.
But later Frankfurt was very important, too.
Many Kaiser visited it, and became Kaisers in Frankfurt!
Since 1866 is Frankfurt part of Preussen, 1880 the "alte Oper" and 1886"the Hauptbahnhof" are opened.
In the second worldwar the inner city of Frankfurt is nearly complete destroyed by bombs.
1949 Frankfurt is nearly getting the capital city of Germany, only a few votes are missing, but Berlin is getting capital city again.
In 1997 the "Commerzbanktower" is open, its the tallest building of europe!
TODAY:
Frankfurt is very popular for tourists, i think it's the only german city which is a bit like the american cities Washington,New York,Dallas... because it has got much tall building and a modern style wich many active people in the city.
The most visit Frankfurt by airplane, it has got one of the biggest airports of the world, very modern.
The most sleep in a hotel near the airport in the first night.
Some parts everyone should visit:
The main:
The big german river, you can go by boat on it, or walk next to the river, picknick on the grass, or just sit around and watch the ships going by.
The Zeil:
Its the shopping mile of Frankfurt, a few big center are there to buy stuff, and many sittingplaces.
Some people make music in the Zeil street, so it's a very relaxed time there.
The Römer:
The old part of Frankfurt, with the "Rathaus", it has got some nice old houses in the old style, also you find nice bistros there.
The Paulkirche
Many important decicions of germany were made there hundred years ago, its a very nice church and free to visit.
Börse:
I guess all know the Frankfurt Börse is one of the most important in the world, you can go there too.
Alte Oper:
It's a great old building, you can visit it, and maybe watch Shakespeare?;)
You can reach Frankfurt by highway, airplane or with trains, the Hauptbahnhof is very big and many trains go there.
OF COURSE Frankfurt has got a good nightlife, Frankfurt is known for techno, house and dancefloor music, and of course for other stuff too.
Many discos and stuff like that is very near from the inner city, the prices are a bit high, but this is typical for a big city, i think.
AT ALL:
I can say Frankfurt is a nice big city, it has got 450000 people, who live there (800000 when you count the subvillages)
It's very clean, people have to pay when they throw away a cigarette for example.
The criminality is of course a bit high, but compared to US cities very low, but you shouldnt go trough dark street in the night;).
I love Frankfurt, i think it's one of the most intresting cities in germany, it's one of the most important cities in europe and always worth a watch!
