I can't out-do this... ever! (Reply to this comment)

Wow, MH if I could! This is an absurdly great review! I never really enjoyed Venezia despite having seen it a total of five times. You have to have a certain angle or attitude to thoroughly enjoy it, and I do agree the best time to go is probably the fall or winter. It's a bit crowded in the "spring break" Feb/Mar time, but right after Christmas it's the least crowded you'll likely see it.
Spaghetti alle vongole is a dish I always enjoyed, particularly with the tiny mediterranean clams. They are illegal to fish here but in the Med that's how big they grow and boy are they tasty!

I love Venice!! (Reply to this comment)

I enjoyed your wonderful review of one of my favorite destinations. I have never been there during Carnival, and can only imagine how festive and magical it is then.
When I read of some of the tremendous flooding problems that they have not even begun to properly address, I can only hope it will survive for future generations to visit and enjoy. It is really a very special place!
Great review!

Another Howard Creech PhotoJourn-o-logue (Reply to this comment)

Just when I thought I'd never see another, you surprised me! Missed your great travelogues with a side of photographic-caliber descriptions along with a hefty helping of applicable local gourmet fare for dessert. Fantastic, as usual, Howard.

you reminded me why I wanted to pull up stakes and move to Venice when I visited there. lovely, romantic city.
wish there was a way you could insert the pix you describe. would love to see them. had a new camera and, spaz that I am, I messed up all my pix of Italy. grrrr!

Howard, if I hadn't already started to cook Italian tonight, I'd just have to scrap my meal and start making Italian sauce. As I read your review I could smell the fresh tomatoes and herbs from the garden simmering in the kitchen.
You paint a beautiful picture of Venice.
Thank you!

Marvelous! (Reply to this comment)
by DAnneC
In so many professional travel reviews on Venice, I've heard that I'm at least 25 years too late to see anything like what the word "Venice" suggests to my imagination. It's good to know that, if I ever finally get the chance to go there, the charms of this unique ancient city will still be waiting--though not in summer, of course.
Regards,

ahh Venice, (Reply to this comment)

My memories of the brief time we spent in Venice aren't very romantic..A car that kept breaking down and sleeping in a garage on the mainland for the first night are two of the things I think of when I think of Venice.. but I do remember the beauty of the canals and walking over the small bridges at sundown.. I guess I'll just have to go back...We've been saying that for way too many years..
If nothing else last week's nightmare taught me it's that you have to live life while you can... I hope travel doesn't become an absolute nightmare...
Thanks for this enjoyable review....I wish I could see some of those pictures of yours :)
Take care and be safe.

Howard,
Your writing skill continues to shine brightly here at Epinions, and I always find your reviews a treasure trove of information and insight into the subject - whether it be a place, or a camera.
BRAVO on another terrific travel review...!

Dearest Howard,
This is truly a marvelous review, so helpful and jam-packed full of your usual generous tidbits. I don't have as much chance to travel currently, what with an 18 Wheels Of Justice long-haul trucker to call my own, (from cook to trucker, almost a year now, and gone, baby, gone 48 weeks out of 52)!
I know you don't go in for many Write Offs, (and sometimes it does seem there are so many!), and I very much appreciate you taking the time and effort to do so. Plus, as always, your friendship and encouragement mean so very much to this old Hippie Mama!
