EF Tour of Paris, The Rivera and Italy

Written: Mar 29 '01
Pros:Weather was beautiful and there is so many things to see.
Cons:Didn't get to stay long enough especially in Rome.
The Bottom Line: Great tour except you don't get enough time anywhere, but especially in Rome. I would recommend to anyone who wants to tour Europe on a budget.

I took a EF Tour through my local high school, (I am a college student but I graduated from the high school and my sister goes to this high school and she went with me) for Spring Break. An EF tour is a great way for a kid and their parents to get to see Europe. It is fairly priced less than 2,000 for a 10 day tour that includes airfare, hotels, transportation from city to city, and breakfast and dinner. All you need is spending money.

Our tour consisted of 3 days in Paris a day in Nice and 5 days in Italy. We flew into Paris, then rode the train to Nice visited Monte Carlo and stayed in Cannes we then took a bus to Florence visiting Piza on the way. We stayed two days in Florence then we traveled by Bus to Rome stopping at Assisi on the way. We stayed two days in Rome and then flew home.

There are many great sites to see in Paris. The weather was bad during our trip, but if it is nice Paris is a wonderful city to visit. The trip includes a bus tour of the city so you can see the major sites, including the Louve which the group visits, the Effiel Tower, Monmarte and various other sites. Our trip also included a day when we were out on our own, so you can visit places not included in side tours or do some shopping.

You take a night train to Nice from Paris. You visit Monte Carlo see the changing of the guard at the Palace, and you can visit Grace Kelly's grave. The chapel she is buried in is a lovely chapel. They also have a very nice public garden. You also visit a highly renowned perfume factory. Then you go back to either Nice or Cannes to stay the night. Both locations are nice and have a beach that you can visit.

You travel by bus from Cannes or Nice to Florence. You stop at Piza on the way for lunch and to see the leaning tower. Very nice little place. You can also go inside the chapel there as well.

Florence is a wonderful city. It is so beautiful and the weather was great for us. You get a city walking tour that includes the chapel where Michaelanglo is buried. You also get a free day here where you can visit the museum that holds the real David or the one that has painting The Birth of Venus. There are also some great open air markets for shopping. This city is generally a favorite of travelers since it is so beautiful and there are so many things to see. We also went to a disco in Florence which is an experience all its own.

From Florence you travel by bus to Rome. You stop at Assisi on the way. The Basilica of St. Francis is here and the town is very quaint as well. There are some wonderful little shops here and the frescos in the basilica are breathtaking! You really only get one day in Rome. There is some much to see: the Spanish Steps, Sistine Chapel, The Vatican, Trevi Fountain, The Roman Forum, the Colliseum, and many other sites. You get a quick tour. I really think they should trade a day in Paris for one in Rome because it is impossible to see Rome in one day. You just get overly tired trying to do so.

Overall this is a wonderful trip for high school or college students and parents. I have taken this trip twice and enjoyed it both times. It is a quick, face-paced tour that shows you where you liked to go back and spend more time on a future trip. The tour provides you with a tour guide who speaks English, French and Italian that stays with you for the entire length of the trip. Its a great trip especially since the company takes care of all the details.
