The Vatican is probably the best known religious site in the world. It is unique in every way because it is so self contained.
I believe that you should allow a minimum of two days to properly visit it- three, if you can spare the time. To visit the museums, the art treasures and all is very tiring. But be sure to include St. Peter's
Basilica (and the walk up to the top), The Sistine Chapel, gardens around the grounds and of course, the square itself.
The Vatican has certain days that it is open and it has set hours of operation. So, be sure to check this before you plan your trip.
It is worthwhile and you will enjoy this part of Rome.
