Pros: English speaking, great local vibe and food, lots to do and see! Shorts, flipflops, T-shirt!
Cons: Slow service EVERYWHERE! ROADS ARE ROUGH!!! BRING EXTRA DEET BUG SPRAY!! YOU'LL BE EATEN ALIVE...
The Bottom Line: Placencia is a perfect mix of remote and convenient. Locals are nice, so much to do, easy to plan, great food. English speaking. PACK LIGHT - SHORTS & t-SHIRTS!!

Placencia - the perfect balance of seclusion and convenience. Increasing awareness of this beautiful peninsula may be the eventual ruination of this very organic destination. The locals are amazing and offer all the services you could need from taxi to fishing boats to snorkel guides. There are many "ex-Pats" living in Placencia, but it's best to use the local services if possible. These people know their country, food, land, hidden gems and are happy to share. Wendy's - for AWESOME food and great breakfast to-go if waiting for excursion that departs from town dock. We ate there several times... every time was GREAT FRESH FOOD. My husband went on on a great fishing trip with a local, just the two of them in a little boat - his best fishing experience to date!! Jungle / Howler Monkey tour was worth the experience, but if you're looking for cushy / pampered, you won't find it here. Guides are so incredibly knowledgeable about indigenous plants and critters. We saw a great deal because it was all pointed-out to us. Night life is what you make of it. Relaxing with great food and a full belly seemed fine with us. Cave swimming was another great trip. Took 2 hours to get there, but it was INTENSE and VERY PHYSICALLY CHALLENGING. NOT FOR THE WEAK-HEARTED... really need to be in shape to swim and climb wet rock in the darkness... an experience I will never ever forget. AWESOME AND SCARY! RENT A CAR!! 4X4!!! Talk to the locals and ask them where to eat, what to do. They are very nice, honest people, happy to help. English-speaking made this trip so easy, plenty of little markets to buy all you need, shorts and a tee every day, VERY EASY to "wing it" without reservations for excursions or day trips, great food, nice people, beautiful water
