I agree! (Reply to this comment)

I stayed in Sao Paulo last year in October after going to Iguazu, Curitiba, Manaus, the Amazon and the Pantanal and I had NO problems with crime, etc. and I am a single female traveler. So it is no worse than Mexico City, Delhi, Bejing, Shanghai, etc. I think crime in Rio is worse.

São Paulo...São Paulo... (Reply to this comment)
by ALEK
I liked vey much this richful and detailed description of São Paulo, that certainly could only be given by a person borned and raised here, and not a 1 week visitor.
I was also born in São Paulo, went to college here, and made my MBA in Germany. So I can also tell that I know "a little bit outside my yard" very well....
Besides the outrageously beautiful Europe I know very well the US, mainly the West Coast. It's really a beautiful..beautiful country, that I cannnot help stop visiting it !!! The sad thing is the superficial knowledge of the world that dominates the average north american...very sad.
Brasil is the 7.th in world economic power, and São Paulo is the craddle of the brazilian growth. São Paulo is not just huge...is beyond that..the metropolitan area is almost 100km wide...Is the percentages of criminality are the same of a small town, of course the number of problemas are higher !!! That's simple maths...
Here lives the 1st. biggest japanese population outside Japan, and the 2nd. italian population outside Italy. (I'm italian citizen myself).
So, tough all of this beauty I have visited and experienced in my life, nothing compares of what's possible to do and to experience when you live in São Paulo...you'll never meet so warmhearthed people, so an outstanding food and the variety of places to go and visit.
It's really worth visiting, and as every big city, mind the some local tips...but if the point is having fun with 100% security, the place I would suggest is Disneyland !!!
