Chile is an amazing country. I visited Santiago, the capital, and Arica, the most northern city near the border of Peru. Santiago was very smoggy and big. A lot of culture. I traveled in August which is their winter. The weather was a little rain and chilly. In Arica, all the land is desert and the beaches are beautiful. A warm climate year-round. Knowing Spanish is a must. Tours to Lago Chungura, a lake 15,000 feet above sea level in the Andes near the Bolivian border was one of the most wonderful experiences.
Be sure to stay in the Mountains at night and look at the stars. One of the best views of the galaxy are in the mountains of Chile. This trip is for anyone who enjoys adventure and travelling to places many others have not experienced.
