In the spring I traveled to Monteverde. The ride up to mondeverde is long and dusty. The people hide the sign showing you the way so few people will go, it doen't work. They also ruin the roads and cover them with dust. But when you get there it's well worth it. I personaly was looking forward to going to the famous cloud forest.
We got a guide and went on our way. My advice to you is that you don't really need a guide unless your writing a 5000 page report about the cloud forest. Our guide told us everything we ever wanted to know and so much more. After about an hour of the guide saying, oh yes we must go see the famous glimicous latimousus of the blah blah blah blah. I wanted to take a tram to get away from this guide. I was going to sneek into another group but the I realized everybody was like this. The guide said they had to pass all sorts of tests and exams to become a monteverde cloud forest guide. And they had to do it something like 3 times a year. I was starting to feel sorry for the guide. Anyway, besides the crazy guide the forest was stunning. In the first 10 steps your inveloped in a misty wonder. It was a short trail but much better than I thought it would be.
If you have a chance to travel other places you have to go to quepos, a small town on the western side. The beaches there are great with amazing water and cool monkeys. The capital is also a great place to visit because it has such a rich and stunning culture. It's always amazing to see how people in other countries eat, dance and speak. I myself am learning spanish and this helped me in a lot of ways. It makes you more egar to speak the native tounge.
