If you want to see the most flora and fauna and maximize your time in the Galapagos Islands, travel with Galapagos Travel, 1-800-969-9014, galapagostravel@compuserv.com.
Boats are limited to 16 passengers and sail for 11 or 14 days--not 3, 5 or 7 days like most standard cruises. This allows more time in the islands and gets you to some of the interesting outer islands. You will be the first ones on shore each morning, and likely the last ones off. At midday are great snorkeling activities. You have a university trained guide as well as a tour leader who gives nightly talks on various aspects of the islands.
This trip caters to the real nature enthusiast who is willing to be up at 5:00 or 6:00 each morning and prefers accommodations that are more simple than what a luxury cruise ship offers.
Not only did the Galapagos Travel folks do a great job with my cruise, but they helped me out with an airline snafu and lost luggage. Even though my frequent flyer tickets had brought them no commission, they still made five international phone calls and faxes at their expense to solve my problem.
It was such a fantastic experience, I'm planning a return trip and I'll be using Galapagos Travel.
