In Cusco, it is beautiful and breathtaking.
You are so high up and the sky is bluer than you have ever seen it.There are many nice and friendly hostals that have great accomidations and there are cafes and restuarants that serve the most delicious food.
One word of caution though. Don't order anything that you don't know what it is. For example-cuye-sounds simple enough the english meaning is roast guinea pig. They are big delicacys there.
Try not to buy everything that is poffered to you from the street children that sell almost anything-from old Peruvian coins to watercolor paintings to postcards. Try not to upset them because I do have reason to believe that they do carry around with them small knives or sort.
Anyway, there are many stores there that sell so much nice stuff it is unbelievable. If you add it up you save a bundle of money buying stuff straight from the store in Cusco instead of from a retail store where you live. There are many stores that deal with jewelry and all of them are fantastic. The selection is huge and the prices are low.
At night, people come from their country homes to sell their wares. They have some of the most unbelievable stuff that you can find and for good prices. They are all over in the Plaza de Armas were nearly everything is done and you should spend alot of time in that vicinity so you know the place and how to get to other plazas and such from it because it is pretty much the center of Cusco.
You can nearly catch a taxi anywhere and usually all it costs is if you don't go to far is 2-3 soles and at night or longer trips it is 4-10 soles. Don't try to drive yourself because you might not know how to get about or know where to turn for certain places, the taxi drivers do!
Take as many photos that you can because you WILL regret it in the end when you didn't take that one last pic that could have been great. Always have enough soles to last you through the day-don't exchange all your money because thst is grounds for pickpockets to be watching and always keep your money in a safe place. Bags, purses, and fanny packs won't cut it, they can be cut on the straps and run off with or a person can run right by, grab the bag and keep going-leaving you shocked and dismayed.
Like any other city, keep on your guard, look out for yourself and keep safe!!
