Cuzco and Macchu Picchu will take your breath away not matter who you are. I went back to Peru in 1994, and my father told my sister and I that we were going to visit the Inca City for a couple of days. My sister and I were excited, and ready to take the trip. I've always been amazed by the Inca's history and this was the time where I was going to look at it with my own eyes.
Cuzco, it is the place to visit at any time of the year, but it may be cold in the winter. The people are nice and you always make you feel welcome. There are museums, churches, and historic sites to visit and all of them are interesting. When you go outside of town, you are surrounded by mountains and it will probably be the best breath of air in any part of the planet because pollution is close to none. Don't worry about getting lost, there will always be somebody willing to help you with directions. If you want souveniors, don't worry about that either because there are street markets and shops where you can buy beautiful and authentic things.
Macchu Picchu is the city capital of the Incas, it's about 6 hours away on train from Cuzco. The train ride is long but it goes fast because there are people from all over the world and socializing is big and quite interesting. When I first got there and I saw the city, I stopped breathing because I was so amazed by the buildings, gardens, etc. To top it all, you have the Andes Mountains as a background. You just cant go wrong with that. To walk around the city, it takes awhile but it is worth the effort. I am always amazed by how the Incas put their buildings together and they last for centuries, especially since they didnt have the technology that we have in America.
Macchu Picchu is a place that makes you feel like you are in another world, it's just a mysterious place and I will never forget the feeling. I will really recommend you to take your next trip to visit Cuzco and Macchu Picchu. You wont regret it.
