| kligor's Full Review: The Dead Sea |
Israel is the home of many captivating arrays. Some of the many beautiful sights are the Wailing Wall, Eilat, Haifa, and The Dead Sea.
Israel is located in the South West corner of Asia. Israel borders Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Egypt. Israel's western shoreline borders the Mediterranean sea (where I used to go every weekend).
Israel is a very small country. It stretches from North to South only 450 kilometres, and from West to East only 60 kilometres.
I've lived in Israel for 7 years. In 7 years of living in Israel, it's impossible not to visit the world famous site of The Dead Sea. What is it famous for? For being the lowest area below sea level. It goes 1300 feet below sea level. That means that only at 1300 feet below sea level, the water appears.
When I went to the dead sea, I saw people just floating on the water and reading newspapers. After you go in the water just past your waist it's practically impossible to stand; you have to float. And it's impossible to drown. Don't even try to dive; you can't go underwater. This is the perfect place to learn to swim. You don't have to worry about drowning (isn't that great?!).
The Dead Sea is not only fun, but it's also healthy. For centuries it's been known to be effective against skin diseases such as: Psoriasis, vitiligo, acne, arthropathica, Atopidc Dermatitis, Eczema, Asthma, and Arthritis.
FACTS
1. The Dead Sea is almost seven times as salty as the ocean.
2. The Dead Sea is not a sea, it's a lake.
3. The Dead Sea is 1000 feet deep.
4. The surface of the Dead Sea has been dropping for the past 50 years.
5. The Dead Sea is 80 kilometres (50 miles) long, and 18 kilometres (11 miles)
6. The Dead sea occupies an area of 1020 square kilometres.
Climate
There is no rain in Israel from late May, to early October. Though it is very hot and humid. During daytime, in the summer in Israel, the average temperature in Israel is 32 degrees (celsius). At night the average temperature in the summer is about 23 degrees. I would say that Israel's summer lasts for about 8 months: it starts at April, and ends at October. In the winter, there is a lot of rain, but no snow. The average temperature for the winter during daytime is 14 degrees. At night, the average temperature is 5 degrees. Also, in the winter it is very damp, and unpleasant.
I enjoyed floating in the Dead Sea very much. I'm sure that it will be an experience that I will never forget. My family also enjoyed it as much as I did. My favourite thing about the Dead Sea was floating on the water, without a care in my head. Just floating, relaxing, and enjoying. It was a great trip.
I would recommend going to the Dead sea in early April, when it's warm. Any later, it's just unpleasantly hot and it's hard to cool down in the water, when the water itself is hot.
So if you'll be going to the Dead sea be sure to wear a hat and lots of sunscreen. Until then, have fun!!!
