Pros: Fun Nightlife, lots of bars and clubs, tons to do
Cons: crowded, pushy vendors, not great for kids, not the best beaches
The Bottom Line: I recommend bodrum for singles and couples but not for families. It has a great nightlife and is tons of fun and of course the weather is amazing!

| eddielakr's Full Review: Bodrum |
Having family from Turkey and traveling all over the country, I would consider myself somewhat of an expert on Turkish travel.
I went Bodrum twice, one with friends, and once with family.
If your looking for tropical beaches and just pure relaxation, I would recommend Antalya.
Bodrum is more for party and fun
Antalyas beaches are more sandy-tropical like hawaii or florida.
I guess it's the difference between the agean(bodrum) and the mediterranean (antalya)
The agean is a bit more rocky along it's coast and IMHO the water isn't as clean.
Marmaris is also on the agean, but is considered more a family area, with less bars and clubs.
The weather is amazing and the landscape is beautiful. It is surrounded by mountains which give it unbelievable views.
The weather is hot and humid in august *avoid*
The best time to come here is in june, july, and september.
Many people go to bodrum in may, because antalya does not open it's buses and hotels until june.
Bodrum is very very touristy and is considered somewhat different than Turkey itself. Turkey is somewhat conservative, east meets west, but Bodrum is very open.
There are a lot of clubs, bars, pubs, dance discos, etc.
Halikarnas is the largest and is located inside a huge greek colliseum, located along the water.
I saw atb in concert there and it as absolutely specatacular.
The nightlife is fun and there is a mile.two mile strip of just stores and vendors.
You can buy anything; fake watches, fake armani shirts, turkish blue eyes, jewelry, gifts, icecream, food, everything!!
In August it was so packed that you could barely move, as if you were in a carnival.
It was a lot of fun though, definately a place for singles or with a lot of friends.
It's very easy to travel from your hotel.resort to the strip at night. There are buses that circle around the hotels and pick you and other passengers up for a small fee.
The buses are clearly labeled to where they are going.
When you want to return to the hotel, you find the bus with your location and just wait until it fills up (10-20mins)
Something unique - Bodrum is boat capital of the world, so if you need to buy a boat, interested in boats, or just want to learn how they are made, go to Bodrum.
Everything is done by hand and it's absolutely amazing how skilled these artisans are.
You can also take a boat for a nominal fee ($40-100) to the Greek Island of Rhodes or Rhodos as the turks call it.
Takes about an hour and leaves in the morning and comes back at night.
Day stays do not need a visa, but overnight stays do
You do need your passport to enter greece
Also there are no airlines that fly directly from the states into bodrum, you have to stop into Istanbul first.
