Pros: Safe to walk the streets, excellent bus system, a people who enjoy meeting Americans.
Cons: Only residents can drive cars. But tourists can drive mopeds, look out for limestone walls!
The Bottom Line: Rolling hills, limestone walls, beautiful gardens, friendly people. Bermuda is actually a chain of islands put together in the middle of the Atlantic! Fly to Bermuda and see!

| grey002's Full Review: Bermuda |
That is, of course, if you choose to travel in December, January, or February which is considered off peak season and don't mind temperatures in the 60's. Air and hotel prices are usually 1/4 less than the Summer season and availability in air and hotel seems to be more readily available for last minute travel bookings.
I must say, the people made Bermuda. I was amazed at their warmness and politeness. Bermuda is a British colony, but has a strong American influence. I found that many of the residents of Bermuda have family roots going back in history on the U.S. Eastern coast as well as in England, of course. The US dollar is also accepted everywhere and that did surprise me. There are many local artists and music groups to be appreciated. Local art can be seen in abundance at the Royal Navy Dockyard where there is a section for the local talent to display their goods. This includes water colors, air brushing, food specialties, and pottery, to name a few. I was staying in the town of Hamilton and it took me about 50 minutes to get there either by ferry or by the local bus in each direction.
I also recommend seeing the Bermuda Aquarium & Zoo. There is so much to learn about the local marine life and it doesn't cost anymore than any aquarium in America! Bermuda has its very own perfumery too! If time allows, there is the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse. Be prepared to hike up to the top, but the panoramic views of the rolling hillsides will be worth it. Bermuda also has many caves that I was not aware of. Best known is the Crystal Caves. It was about $10 per person when I went. I'm not a golfer, but Bermuda is known as a great golf destination. And last, make sure to see the Southshore Beaches, and experience the famous "pink sand". It really is pink!
Exploring where to eat was fun! I recommend making a stop at the Swizzle Inn. This is the Planet Hollywood or Hard Rock of Bermuda. Bermuda style, it is more relaxed and not way as glitzy though. To eat in Bermuda is the same as in America price wise, I thought. There is also a Kentucky Fried Chicken in Hamilton. As for my "fine dining" it was the same as if I paid a good dinner at Red Lobster, as long as I stayed away from the fancy resort hotels and the major tourist streets, such as Front Street in Hamilton. The next road over will have prices us Americans can relate to. I love to explore!
I stayed in downtown Hamilton. I chose to stay at the Rosedon. The staff was the best! Right across the street is the Hamilton Princess. I chose this central location so I could explore the city (very safe). The tourist bureau is just down the road where I got a lot of tips & advice, and ideas on things to do. You can buy a 3 day or 5 day bus/ferry pass there at a reasonable price. I chose the 3 day and it was $21 for unlimited, and child rate was half. There is no driving allowed for non residents. However mopeds can be rented. Be very very careful if you choose to do mopeds. Roads are steep and hilly and driving is on left side of road!
And last, these are other reasons why I love Bermuda. The white roofs that catch rainwater, since Bermuda has no freshwater, no lakes or rivers. What a great idea! Also, the history, in which I will not get into, but it is so rich and interesting for anyone who visits.
I hope you enjoyed reading this opinion as much as I enjoyed writing it. I simply love Bermuda!
Note: This is a re-post. I revised it and moved it to the proper category in Epinions.
