My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary in Niagara Falls. We stayed on the Canada side. Overall the vacation was really great. We rode the Maid of the Mist. This is a must. However I do recommend purchasing a waterproof disposable camera for this journey. The boat takes you along side the American Falls, then along side the Canadian falls. You get so close that you get soaked. Raincoat Ponchos are provided for this. This is not something I recommend bringing young children on, as it may frighten them. However for adults, it is great. We also did the journey behind the falls. Again, a poncho is provided, and again for pictures I recommend a waterproof disposable camera. Going through the little passage way you can hear the falls. The platform where you go outside you are so close you can touch the falls, and you get soaked. Pack plenty of clean socks, and dry clothes. We also went up to the top of the Skylon Tower. We went up there both during the day and at night. Both times give a different perspective, especially when they are illuminating the falls. If you get some time I recommend taking the short drive to the little town Niagara on the Lake. It is a pretty town, like something from a Norman Rockwell painting. Plus you can see Lake Ontario. I would also recommend that you have plenty of fuel in your car if you drive, because the price of fuel is much higher in Canada than in the US.
We stayed at a hotel that provided free shuttle service to the falls. It was a fairly good option but ran late a lot. We preferred to drive over there. If you go to the casino, and join the player's club, you can park for free at both of the casinos anytime, day or night for as long as you want. A lot of the stuff in town by the falls, is the typical tourist stuff you see anywhere. I would definitely recommend researching this stuff, and possibly looking for discount coupons before doing most of it. We ate at the Boston Pizza that was along Clifton Hill. The food was good and fairly inexpensive. Most of the places to eat have discount coupons in the various coupon books that can be found around town.
There were a few fairly good places to eat around town. One of which was the Boston Pizza located at Clifton Hill. The food is good, the prices were reasonable, and it's right next to the midway so the kids can play games. I do not however recommend eating at the Burger King on Clifton Hill. They have it decorated really cool, however the food was horrible, and the fries were cold, and it was nasty inside.
