CN Tower - Lines, lines everywhere a line

I wish I could tell you about the swift elevator ride to the top, the glorious view and the neat glass floor but I can't because I never saw it. We arrived at the CN Tower at about 11:00 on the Sunday before Labor Day (I admit, not the best time to go but it was the only day we had.) to find long lines for tickets. We decided to go ahead and wait it line. It took about thirty minutes to buy our tickets. The ticket seller told us there was a thirty minute wait to get to the top. We went inside and joined a very long line. At first I thought there were two lines to the elevators but was shocked to find there was only one that snaked around the whole lobby.
After about an hour in line I asked my friend to go to the ticket taker and ask for an estimate. He indicated that it would be at least an hour from the point he was standing to the elevator. I estimated we had a half hour wait to get up to that point. My feet were starting to hurt and there was no place to sit down. We decided to leave since we only had one day in Toronto and did not want to spend it standing in line. We went outside and sold our tickets to two guys standing in a long ticket line at less than what we paid for them. We were amazed how long the line was behind us when we left.
Bottom line: The CN tower needs to get a timed ticketing system in place for summer weekends. To expect children and seniors to stand in line for over three hours is ridiculous. They also need to give the ticket sellers correct information about the wait time or put a sign on the ticket window with an estimate. We would have never bought tickets had we known.
