This review will do one thing: explain how to get a big check from the Canadian government after your vacation there. I'll leave it to others to sing the praises of Canada. It's a great country, but no matter how great the country, if you can't afford to go, it won't make much difference to you.
Get a FIFTEEN PERCENT Refund
What a lot of citizens of the United States don't know is that Canada offers a rebate of sales taxes paid by non-residents while in the country. This means that if you go to Canada and spend money there, you can get the Canadian government to send much of it right back to you, if you just follow three simple steps.
1. Keep your receipts from your time in Canada
2. Get the brochure "Tax Refund for Visitors to Canada"
3. Fill out and mail the form inside
That's all there is to it.
Some Restrictions May Apply...
The catch is that not all purchases are eligible for tax refunds. Here are the rules:
1. No refunds are paid for meals, alcohol, tobacco, services (like dry cleaning or hair cuts), or transportation (fuel, rentals, or tickets). ACCOMODATIONS ARE ELIGIBLE.
2. Refunds will be paid only for goods to be used outside of Canada.
3. Each receipt must be for at least $50 (Canadian)
4. Total receipts from the trip must be at least $200 (Canadian)
Well Worth The Hassle
My wife and I, just returned from our honeymoon, are waiting for a check for about one hundred U.S. dollars. It took me about 15 minutes to fill it out, which means that I earned the refund at a rate of four hundred dollars an hour. It may seem like a hassle, but in the end, it's well worth it.
