Okay, so you need some Canada info, eh?
Please note, these are just some general things, to help the average American brush up on some skills. :)
The States:
Actually, here they are called Provinces... and there are only ten of them. They are...
- Alberta
- Britsh Columbia
- Manitoba
- New Brunswick
- New Foundland
- Nova Scotia
- Ontario
- Prince Edward Island
- Quebec
- Saskatchawan
My personal interpretation of each of the Provinces. (I hope I don't irriate anyone.
Alberta- Not much to do except maybe the West Edmonton Mall, if you make it all the way *up* to Edmonton.
British Columbia- My current province of choice. I live in Vancouver, and I would have to say this is by far the prettiest province.
Manitoba- Grew up in this province, there's a lot of water, and a lot of fields. Because I did live there, I know there were a lot of other things, but to the average over-looker, it's pretty sparse...
New Brunswick- Either they are incredibly low-populated, or I just haven't heard much from their end of the province ;)
New Foundland- Lots of fishing, lobstering (yup, you Americans eat a lot of 'foundland Lobster.)
Nova Scotia- Pretty small province (not as small as PEI, though) but has a little quaint town named "wolf".
Ontario- Biiiig province, fair amount of people. A lot of French-speaking people.
Prince Edward Island- Known mostly as "PEI" it is by far the smallest province, and, like it's name, is an island. (I'm informative, hey?)
Quebec- Almost completely french speaking... One thing that gets my goat (or favorite dog-team member) is that in Manitoba and Ontario (not sure about the really east provinces) the signs have to be in both french and english. BUT in Quebec, the law says just french. Dumb dumb dumb.
and lastly ... Saskatchawan- Sask-catch-a-won. There's a little joke going around... if someone moves to Saskatachawan, all you can say is "send me some wheat." ... If there are any people still living in that province, let me know. If there are any hot spots, make sure you tell someone about them! ;)
I hope no one takes offense to my interpretations of this Country. I am proud to be Canadian. I was reading Epinions, and just noticed there weren't any general facts out there. Also, no one had quite my opinions about some other things.
The entire population of Canada hovers around 30 million people. The largest cities in Canada are: (according to size)
- Toronto
- Montreal
- Vancouver
Did you know?
- Canada is the second-largest country in the world after Russia...
- Canada shares an 8892 km boundary with the United States.
- Canada has one-seventh of the world's fresh water.
- A surprising (approx) 39% of Canadian's mother tongue is French.
And real quick!
-X-files spent it's first five years in Vancouver!
-Bryan Adams, Crash Test Dummies, Celine Dion, and Anne Murray are all Canadians. (also, Anne Murray turned down the opportunity to sing "Blame Canada" at the Grammy's for that South Park song.
-Scott Baristow, from Party of Five, and several movies, was born in a little town in Manitoba! Same town as me, as a matter of fact. He hung out with my sisters, and shaved his head for his senior school play!
I hope some of this helped you get through a conversation about Canada! Do leave your questions or comments in the comment area!
