Pros: Quaint, not touristy
Cons: Closes down early at night, but then who says that's a con.

Last year I picked up a calendar featuring beaches in Mexico. They had a stunningly beautiful picture of clear turqoise waters and a white sandy beach with a lone fishing boat bobbing at a dock. The caption said, "Puerto Morelos, Estado de Morelos". I got a chuckle out of that one since last time I checked, Morelos was a land-locked state!

Great review, but you're making hungry for warm sand!

I had the joy of spending several days in the spring of 1974..... (Reply to this comment)

...on an isolated stretch of Yucatan beach that was absolutely deserted except for me and my hammock. The only way to reach it was on foot after abandonning my car a half-mile from the beach at the end of a dirt road off the north-south coastal highway. That stretch of beach is now central Cancun. The nearest community of any consequence at the time was Puerto Morelos, where I got my supplies.

I cannot go back there now without remembering how it was before it was anything.

Sigh.

Tom there's also a small store with a reasonably good selection of real Cuban cigars there too. Goyo Morgan enjoys a cigar every now and then. We shared a couple of Cohibas on a shady patio.

Sounds like my kind of place. I just need access to some beer, some cigars... and a hammock. Who needs a disco?

James:

Your "straight" pieces are a wonder of their own. Always a joy. A fun read of a different sort than your (mis)adventurous memoirs.

P.S. Still haven't solved than Canadian Jewelers Association phone number mystery. The gods have conspired against us!
