Pros:fun, exotic, lots of things to do
Cons:the water, the local police

For those of you looking for a fun, exiting and inexpensive Mexican getaway, I have just the place for you. I recently visited Puerto Penasco, Mexico (A.K.A. Rocky Point) for spring break. This small vacation city located at the top of the gulf of California has many great things to offer.
Lodging is plentiful with a great rang in pricing. If luxury is what you want La Plaza Las Glorias is you hotel. Located right on the beach it offers beautiful views, a restuarant, bar, and multiple pools. This resort ranges from about $100 to $200 a night. The room was nice with a large shared patio to soak up the sun. El Mirador is in a prime location. It is right on the beach and the main strip.
The strip consists of many clubs and bars. The Rocky Point nightlife on the strip is a blast. The booze is cheap and abundant at all the bars. You can drink all night at some for $10. Each night the bars fill with Americans looking to have fun. And fun is all they find. The DJs are American and play great music. You can dance or just sit and enjoy the indoor or outdoor atmosphere.
During the day there are plenty of things to keep you entertained. The fish market is a street lined with small shops. The locales will do anything to get you to buy their merchandise, including selling it for next to nothing. They have a wide range of things to buy, such as jewelry, clothing, imitation Rolexes for $15 and all kinds of other little trinkets.
Other than the shops the Ocean provides many things to do. I enjoyed just relaxing on the beach sipping dos equis and tequilla sunrises. There are also boat tours to take. They range from around 2 to 6 hours all with $1 drinks. Most of the tours catch a glimpse of groups of dolphins or sometimes whales. Also you can SCUBA dive or snorkel. There are many fishing charters available as well.
Many people are concerned with what they will eat in Mexico. There are many great places to eat in Rocky Point are renouned for its great seafood. Besides tourism fishing and especially shrimping is the main industry there. All the seafood is exellent and reasonably priced. An excellent and cheap place to eat is Margaritavilla. And while you wait for your food everyone is invited to karaoke.
My trip to Rocky Point was the most exiting, crazy and fun time I have ever had. It is a 3 and a half hour drive from Phoenix and within driving distance from many cities in the south west. I recomend going there to anyone who will be in the area- you won't regret it.
