Freeways? What Freeways!? (Reply to this comment)

I've been a resident of Brisbane for over 15 years and I find it bizarre that you think Brisbane is over-run by freeways. There is only the Riverside Expressway that is in the actual heart of the city. It doesn't block the view of the city and provides an easy route south to the Gold Coast. A few years ago, the main highway south was only two lanes in each direction, it was only recently that they widened it. All other major arterials are located in the suburbs. I, for one, don't feel Brisbane has a lot of concrete, in that regard.
Also, we have conservation acts that prohibit the demolition of old, historic buildings, particularly their facades. Some of the nicest old buildings have been restored. The old Treasury Building has been restored and is now the Treasury Casino - a brilliant building which is lit up at night to highlight it's character.
And yes, you're right, it is improving. Thanks in part to the Brisbane City Council which adheres to making it a livable city with local parks etc.
Maybe I'm just biased.

I'd just read your Oakland review, so I was halfway through this before I realized you weren't writing about that miniscule bedroom community immediately south of San Francisco. Anyway, I enjoyed this immensely nonetheless. Still, if you ever do a review of Brisbane, California, send me an email and let me know about it; I'm curious to know what, if anything, anyone could say.

It takes me way too many words to say a whole lot less than you manage to do with so many fewer words (this sentence is a case in point).
Like so many on this site I get my props for yuks and sarcasm. You manage to rise above that. It's good reading.
