If you ever have the chance to visit the Cook Islands, take it. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth. My husband and I chose to visit them for our honeymoon when we found out how expensive a trip to Tahiti would be. Looking back, it is probably one of the best decisions we have ever made. Less expensive than the more popular Pacific islands such as Tahiti and Fiji, the Cook Islands are a perfect choice for travelers seeking paradise.
A list of things I love about the Cooks:
- The people are friendly (riding around the island on a rented motorbike, people were constantly smiling and waving at us).
- Island laws state that there can be no buildings higher than the tallest palm tree.
- You can stand on the beach at noon and count the number of people you see on one hand (we visited in late June).
- The snorkeling inside the reef on Rarotonga is wonderful, and most of it is in water less than 6ft. deep.
- There are inexpensive houses and apartments for rent all over the island, some for as little as $350 per week.
