One of my biggest regrets of my two years living in Guam is not making it to Yap. If you head out to Micronesia to dive then make a trip to Yap. You will likely fly in and out of Guam. If you are going to Palau there is a flight that stops in Yap on the way back to Guam. Do yourself a favor and spend a couple of days diving in Yap.

I had several friends who made the trip to Yap and it sounds great. Plan your trip during the spawning/mating season of the giant manta rays. Yap is the best place to dive with these graceful creatures. My friends have described it in detail to me and I have seen the pictures. You can lay on the bottom and watch these huge (13 foot wingspan) creatures float right over you. You can swim right there with them all around you. What an experience that must be for any diver.

The flight (Continental Micronesia) that stops in Yap from Palau is not more expensive so there is no real reason not to make a stop at Yap if you are heading to Palau. Learn from my mistake and make the most of your dive trip.
