We didn't have the kids, but somehow the Japanese group after us seems to have gotten confused and you could hear them throughout the whole cave. But the experience was still great with the galaxy of little light, much like a galaxy.

I forgot to commend you on your Glowworm cave visit!
As they say in OZ and NZ, "Good on You!" That is such a unique experience and so hard to explain to others what it really is like - I had the impression of being out in space. It is so very dark and the glowing lights so very clear and there is no sense of depth - they could be yards away or millions of miles away, it seems. And it works best if there are no kids talking to ruin the spell.

Yes Milford Track sounded good to us too, but at 3 - 4 days one needs to dedicate, and only 15 days available; we decided to leave that for another trip (maybe in a few years).
As for the food, we should have known about those suggestions before, but overall were quite happy with what we found too. I agree lamb (and venison) are great.

I realize that you had limitations of both time, money and a pregnant wife. But, one of the "must do" things is to hike the Milford Track or any of the other beautiful trekks.
Also, in Christchurch there is a fantastic place for breakfast that is not to be missed - Drexel's. it is the best American breakfast on the face of the earth. It is owned by an American from California and his NZ wife who is a classically trained French chef! This is the best of the best. Their Corned Beef Hash is to die for! Their potatoes are surperb and the NZ and Australian bacon is incomparable to our U.S. bacon - leaner, meatier and it doesn't wrinkle when fried.
I hope you had a chance to try Bubble & Squeak, a standard item for breakfast. Their lamb is excellent because they use a very young animal - the bones on a rack of lamb are about the size of chicken bones.
I'm glad you did go all that way!

New Zealand is a wonderful place. I fell in love with it when I visited there last year, and I hope to one day go back, perhaps permanently if I could manage it. Your review is excellent, and really hit the high notes. -- Telynor

I have to admit that we didn't, and the excuse is going to be that my wife is 5 months pregnant. The bumping and potential impact were not what the doctor prescribed. Tried to be a good husband and not run off too much. Besides, we were busy with all the other stuff. ;-)
